The name Chapada Diamantina dates back to a time, in the mid-19th century, when Brazil was the world's largest diamond producer. The Chapada Diamantina is a rough and at the same time fantastically beautiful mountain landscape, created in the Lower Cambrian, with average heights between 800m and 1200m. The highest mountain is the Pico do Barbado with 2033m.
Crisscrossed by rivers, streams, romantic waterfalls and caves, it offers nature-loving hikers and trekkers a paradise of a kind that is becoming rare on our planet. The landscape, as if in fast motion, comes up with constantly changing scenarios and many mesas. The mountainous landscape is sparsely populated and tourism is minimal. The flora offers colorful garden helichrysum Helichrysum bracteatum, cacti, bromeliads and rare orchids such as Adamantinia miltionioides, Cattleya elongata and tenuis, Cleistes metallina and libonni.
The fauna is naturally more discreet in this region but host the critically endangered northern Bahia titi monkey Callicebus barbarabrownae, jaguar, puma, giant anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla and the rare giant armadillo Priodontes maximus.
We have chosen the most beautiful areas of the Chapada Diamantina for our hikes lasting from 4 to 6 days. Our local guide, born in the Chapada, speaks English and French and works with us for 15 years.

I can only agree with the statement of my two friends. It was a truly extraordinary experience. To see this nature in the Chapada Diamantina, the hard, simple life of the local families and to get the impression that you can spend your days quite happily even without the modern achievements of modern times. The whole trip was perfectly organized. The Posada Canto de Bosque in Lençóis with Donna Christl was the successful start.
A special applause goes to our guide Toni. A super pleasant companion, knowledgeable about the country, people and nature. I was able to spend endless time talking to my fellow student and friend Ernst Wilhelm, who was young at heart, about the old days on the beautiful time we are having with the hike. After all, you don't see each other again every day after 40 years. Achim also made a lot of effort in Salvador despite the pouring rain. The pre-carnival atmosphere in the busy city was a good environment for the interesting explanations of the historical sites. So all in all it was a great and successful trip and worth repeating.

I received a warm welcome in Lencois and felt very comfortable in my accommodation. With my private guide Toni I hiked through the national park of the Chapada Diamantina .... It was gigantic, this grandiose nature, the silence .. the many small waterfalls. When I lay on the rock and looked 400m down, I was totally overwhelmed by this beauty... just great... the stalactite cave was beautiful and so was the small pousada in the middle of the wilderness. Then my journey continued to Tinhare / Morro de São Paulo where I was picked up and taken to the ferry.
I was well looked after the whole time. Jorge then picked me up from the boat and took me to my hotel in Morro. I had an apartment there and I really felt very comfortable there, since I didn't have a program I could just relax , relax and go for a walk... I had a great time and will definitely be back.
